BIBLICAL VOYAGE “Small Steps BIG Change”
Brokenness To Blessing
Luke 15:1-3, 11-32
The parable of the prodigal son is a timeless reminder of how brokenness can lead to blessings when we take small steps toward God. It is a story of rebellion, repentance, and restoration—highlighting the transforming power of grace and love.
The younger son’s journey begins in selfishness. By demanding his inheritance, he turns away from his father’s care and sets off to pursue his desires. But his reckless living leads him to utter ruin, leaving him destitute and tending swine. This moment of brokenness becomes a turning point. In his desperation, he takes the first small step: he comes to his senses and resolves to return home, even if only as a servant.
In our lives, we too face moments of brokenness—times when we feel lost, ashamed, or far from God. The first step toward blessing is acknowledging our need for Him. Like the younger son, when we humble ourselves and take even the smallest step back, God’s grace meets us more than halfway.
The father in the story exemplifies this overwhelming grace. He doesn’t wait passively for his son’s return. Instead, he runs to him, embraces him, and restores him as a beloved child. This act of love transforms the younger son’s brokenness into a blessing, reminding us that no failure is too great for God’s forgiveness.
The older son’s reaction, however, serves as a cautionary reminder. While he stayed physically close to the father, his heart was distant—full of resentment and self-righteousness. The father’s gentle response to him invites us to reflect on our own attitudes. Are we willing to celebrate the blessings of others, or do we hold onto bitterness?
This parable calls us to take small yet meaningful steps: acknowledging our need for grace, extending forgiveness to others, and trusting in God’s abundant love. In doing so, brokenness can become the foundation for blessings.
As you reflect on this passage, ask yourself: Where do you need to step out of brokenness and into blessing? God’s arms are always open, ready to transform your life with His love, one small step at a time.
